What is Odyssey of the Mind? Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem solving program for students of all ages. The foundation of Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) is that creativity is a skill that can be taught. OotM provides an opportunity for children to work together on small teams to solve unusual and stimulating problems. Teams then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world levels. OotM team members (OMers) learn creativity, persistence, cooperation, problem solving, and how to think on their feet - all while having a great time! Odyssey is an experience unlike any other! This makes It quite difficult to describe OotM to those unfamiliar with it. The national OotM organization has put together a lively and kid friendly video that you and your child can watch together. This "Creative Experience" video
will help explain and bring to life what
the Odyssey of the Mind program is all about. "Creative Experience" video download Additionally, FLYP Media has created a flashy multi-media exploration of the Odyssey of the Mind program which showcases teams at the high school level. Their article called "Brain Teasers" can be viewed here, and includes full length videos of teams presenting their solutions at World Finals. Need even more information on the OotM program? Please visit our OotM Info & Links page for further details including program requirements, costs, FAQ, etc. We will be having an informational session for parents and children interested in hearing more about the USC OotM program; the meeting details are posted on the calendar page. USC is looking for OotM coaches for the 2011-2012 season We Need Coaches! The bottom line is simple: the more coaches we have,
the more teams we can create. OotM is an incredible opportunity for children, but each year we are forced to turn students away because not enough parents volunteer to coach. As a new coach, we will support you with program training and materials, and will provide experienced coaches to assist you on your journey. USC Odyssey of the Mind Co-Coordinators Susan Rosati is the current USC OotM Cooridinator. She is an experienced OotM coach and will be happy to help answer any of your questions or concerns regarding the Odyssey of the Mind program.
